Job Type: Full Time (W2) Traveling Fiber Splicing Helper

Location: Columbus, OH (This is a 100% traveling role)

Pay: Weekly pay - $25 per hour + $15 per diem for truck

Per Diem: Board and Lodging.

Fiber Splicing Helper Summary: As a Fiber Splicing Helper, your primary responsibility is to assist experienced fiber splicers in installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic communication systems. Fiber Splicing Helpers play a crucial role in supporting the team by preparing and organizing equipment, assisting with cable routing, maintaining documentation, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Fiber Splicing Helper Qualifications:

  • 1yr prior telecommunications fiber work experience
    • Ladder handling and climbing experience / training
    • Experience working around live fiber
    • Experience reading Fiber MDF in CO.
    • Experience working in telephone company manholes
  • Must provide your own work truck capable of carrying a 28’ ladder ($15/hr per diem for use of your vehicle)
  • Requires a valid state drivers’ license with current satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours including possible overtime and night shifts if fiber work is needed during safe time.
  • Willingness to live out of hotels and travel throughout the state of Ohio


Fiber Splicing Helper Key Responsibilities

  1. Equipment Preparation: Assist in preparing and organizing the necessary tools, equipment, and materials required for fiber optic splicing and installation tasks.
  2. Cable Routing: Help with the routing and pulling of fiber optic cables in various environments, such as aerial, underground, and inside buildings, while adhering to safety guidelines.
  3. Cable Stripping and Preparation: Assist in stripping and preparing fiber optic cables for splicing, ensuring clean and accurate cable ends for optimal splicing results.
  4. Splice Closure Assembly: Assist in the assembly and preparation of splice closures, ensuring they are ready for splicing and protected from environmental factors.
  5. Fiber Splicing: Learn and assist experienced splicers in the process of fusing and mechanically splicing fiber optic cables, while maintaining high precision and low loss.
  6. Testing and Troubleshooting: Support the team in performing basic tests and troubleshooting activities on spliced fibers to ensure quality and reliability of the installed connections.
  7. Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment and prevent accidents during fiber splicing and installation tasks.
  8. Documentation: Assist in maintaining accurate records of work completed, including splicing logs, test results, and project progress.
  9. Site Cleanup: Ensure that work areas are kept clean and organized after completing tasks, leaving no debris or hazards behind.
